Yipe! 5 - Help for Playing Yipe! 5
Keyboard & Touch Commands
When playing on a desktop, there are all kinds of keyboard shortcuts to help you out. There may even be an overwhelming amount of keyboard shortcuts you can use as I'm still working on what works best. Here's an overview of what works for the time being:
Movement: You can use w, a, s, d or the arrow keys. Or if you really like your mouse, you can click in the grid or on the arrow buttons to move.
x: While walking around the world this will search the tile you're currently standing on. You can also use the "return" key to search while walking around.
t: To open up the stats window. Hit T again to close the window. Or esc key.
i: To open up the items window. Hit I again to close the window. Or use the esc key.
h: The H key will bring you to... wait, you're already here! The one nice extra about the help button (or keyboard shortcut) is that it might give you a bit more help specific to your situation in the game.
esc: The esc key will close out most any window you open up. Stats window, your items window, to leave a shop or even to end combat and get back to adventuring.
Combat:
Attacking: To attack, you can click on the attack button or press the space key. Optionally, using the game settings, you can allow your movement keys to be used to attack. This is a great way to attack quickly. The risk is if you run into a hard monster and immediately start attacking.
Run: Need to run away??? Hit the esc or r key. Keep in mind that monsters might make a swing at you as you try to run away.
Attack Focus: If there are multiple monsters in combat, you can select which monster you are focused on for attacking via clicking on that monster. All actions (using special power or attacking) will aim at that selected monster until it dies.
Special: Press the p key to initiate your special attack.
Items: Press the i key to open up your items window while you're in combat.
Leaving combat: esc, return or space will get you out of the combat window when done fighting.
Shops:
Selecting Items: Use the up and down arrow keys to select an item. Or click on an item. Or click the up/down arrow buttons. You can also hit a number 1 - 9, to select that specific row in the list of items available in the shop. Wow, that's a lot of ways to select an item to buy!
Buy an item: Ready to make a purchase? Press the b key. Don't worry, it won't let you buy a weapon or armor that's equal to or worse than the one you've got.
Leave: That handy esc key.
Stats:
We love stats in the world of Yipe! And you can expect this window to expand over time. There's quite a few screens there already and you should flip through all of these to see what's there. More detail here.
Navigation: You can use the left and right arrow keys to flip through the various stats screens.
Exit Stats: That handy esc key.
Touch:
Yipe 5 should work pretty well on a tablet or touchscreen. Here are a few specific things that are specific to touch or mouse clicks.
Movement: If you click somewhere on the grid, the player will attempt to move in the general direction you clicked on. If the player gets stuck, try clicking right next to the player in the direction you want to go.
Search: Clicking/Touching the spot where the player is standing will search that spot.
Combat: In combat, you can click on a monster to attack it.
